Giotto

Giotto di Bondone (1266-1337) was a child prodigy, and is commonly credited with being the first true artist of the Renaissance. This is the artist that is celebrated for making the “decisive break with the Byzantine style.” He was trained by Cimabue, and is most praised for his frescos inside the chapel of St. Francis and the Arena Chapel at Scovegni.
